Keeping Stitches Straight (No More Slanted Seams!)
β’ Your first stitch of each round will be placed in what is technically the last stitch of the previous round.
β’ Skip the sl st.
β’ Your second stitch will go into what is technically the first stitch of the previous round.
β’ Continue working in this manner to keep your rounds aligned and prevent the seam from drifting sideways.
β’ Turn your work after your ch 1
Handle (Thermal Stitch for Extra Durability):
Ch 1 and turn your work
Row 1: sc in the front loops of the next 7 sts. Ch 1 and turn your work (7 sc)
Row 2: sc in the back loops of the 7 sts. Ch 1 and turn your work (7)
Rows 3-36 (Thermal Stitch):
β’ Insert your hook through the back loop of the current row and the unworked loop of the previous row.
β’ Yarn over, pull through both loops, yarn over, pull through two loops to complete a sc.
β’ Repeat across all stitches. Turn. (7 sc)
(This method creates a thick, double-layered handle.)
Ch 1 and leave a tail long enough to sew with.
Attach to Cozy:
β’ Lay the handle flat and align it with bottom of the can where the ridge is from round 4 of the base.
β’ Take your darning needle and stitch your handle to the ridge of round 4 of the base. You can use stitch markers to hold it in place and make sure it is straight.
β’ Fasten off and weave in ends.
Finishing:
β’ Fasten off and weave in all ends using a yarn needle.
β’ Slide the cozy onto your favorite can and enjoy!
Tips & Tricks for a Perfect Can Cozy
