DO NOT FASTEN OFF! We will work on the handle portion now.
Keeping Stitches Straight (No More Slanted Seams!)
• Your first stitch of each round will be placed in what is technically the last stitch of the previous round.
• Skip the sl st.
• Your second stitch will go into what is technically the first stitch of the previous round.
• Continue working in this manner to keep your rounds aligned and prevent the seam from drifting sideways.
• Turn your work after your ch 1
Handle (Thermal Stitch for Extra Durability):
Ch 1 and turn your work
Row 1: sc in the front loops of the next 7 sts. Ch 1 and turn your work (7 sc)
Row 2: sc in the back loops of the 7 sts. Ch 1 and turn your work (7)
Rows 3-36 (Thermal Stitch):
• Insert your hook through the back loop of the current row and the unworked loop of the previous row.
• Yarn over, pull through both loops, yarn over, pull through two loops to complete a sc.
• Repeat across all stitches. Turn. (7 sc)
(This method creates a thick, double-layered handle.)
Ch 1 and leave a tail long enough to sew with.
Attach to Cozy:
• Lay the handle flat and align it with bottom of the can where the ridge is from round 4 of the base.
• Take your darning needle and stitch your handle to the ridge of round 4 of the base. You can use stitch markers to hold it in place and make sure it is straight.
• Fasten off and weave in ends.
Finishing:
• Fasten off and weave in all ends using a yarn needle.
• Slide the cozy onto your favorite can and enjoy!
